GENERAL NOTES about Lithium Polymer batteries
mylipo batteries (Lipo batteries, Lithium Polymer batteries) have been developed for use in model sports and must not be used for other purposes. Lipo batteries are energy storage devices with a very high energy density. If handled improperly, they can catch fire, cause fires or physical and material damage. Therefore, always handle your batteries with special care. Lipo batteries must not be heated above 65°C. Keep children away from lipo batteries. Model batteries have no strain relief, pulling on the cables can destroy the battery, in the worst case it can lead to a short circuit. Store them in such a way that no unauthorized persons have access to them, especially children and animals. Never throw the lipo batteries into a fire or expose them to mechanical impact. Lipo batteries must not be opened. In the event of a model crash or other effects that lead to damage, please dispose of the lipo batteries. STORAGE
Lipo batteries like it cool. By keeping the temperature low and the voltage adapted to the storage, you will reduce chemical wear and ensure long use for your applications. Mylipo lipo batteries are shipped with a voltage of 3.8-3.86V, or slightly above for low capacities. A value of 3.75-3.85 has proven to be an advantageous storage voltage for batteries in operation. Current lipo chargers already have a storage program built in. Lipo batteries must be stored at a safe distance of 2.5 m from combustible materials. Storage in so-called "fire protection safes", "fire protection cassettes" or similar is recommended. Alternatively, so-called lipo-bags (lipo-bag, lipo-safety-bag, fire protection bags) can be used. These are fire-retardant and protect against open fire, but not against smoke development. In the event of a fire, CO2, powder or foam extinguishers must be used. The use of water as an extinguishing agent must be avoided.
USE and CHARGING
Due to their structure, lipo batteries (like all batteries) require a certain temperature in order to deliver their full power. The optimal comfort temperature is between 30°C and 40°C at the beginning of use. For extreme applications it can be up to 50°C, but then you have to take care for sufficient cooling, so that the allowed 65°C are not exceeded. At low temperatures, the battery performance is only available to a limited extent. Please use the numerous possibilities for preheating (heating case etc.) to enable safe use. The limited performance at low temperatures leads to an overload of the battery, which ultimately leads to destruction, or irreversible damage with total failure.
Never transport lipo batteries in the model. Use the same means for transport as for storage. Loose batteries in the model or in the means of transport (cars, bags, pouches, etc.) can cause damage in the event of a possible short circuit or damage due to mechanical stress, see section "GENERAL NOTES".
Only chargers with a lipo charging program and balancer may be used to charge the batteries. Charging may only be carried out under supervision on a fireproof base. The final charging voltage must not exceed 4.2V per cell, unless explicitly stated otherwise. The number of cells is given in the battery designation. The number before the "S" is the number of cells, 1S..2S..10S..etc. The number of cells also results from the mentioned battery voltage, divided by 3,7V (nominal voltage of a cell) : e.g. 11,1V : 3,7V = 3. The charging current is normally 1C, a higher charging current 2-5C is possible, please refer to the instructions on the battery label. C is defined as follows : 1C = capacity of the battery in ampere-hours : 3000mAh(capacity) = 3Ah = 3A (charge current). C is to be applied in the same way to the maximum power (current draw) during use. The C-rate is marked on the battery. The 80% rule has proven to be advantageous and safe. Do not draw more than 80% of the rated capacity during operation. However, this will reduce over time. Make sure that the voltage of a cell does not fall below 3.3V during use. Voltages below 3.0V will irreversibly damage the cell. There are only a few mAh between 3.3V and 3.0V.
